Kanchenjunga South - The Lower Himalaya 21 of 67 / View all
Some of my favorites from the first part of the Kanchenjunga trek. Most of the walk here is at low altitudes of about 2000 m, the scenery is green and it is full of warm and friendly people.

Chiring is 11-years-old. His family owns the lodge at Lasiya Bhanjyang. He came with us from Yamphudin to open the lodge all by himself. At the lodge he simply exploded with action: brought water, made fire, cleaned up and cooked. He even sold us some rum ;-)

Arriving at Lasiya Bhanjyang (3400 m). "Bhanjyang" is a local word and means "mountain pass" - similar to the Tibetan "la".

The tailor of Mamangkhe had come to Yamphudin for a weeding. He spoke some English and came to say 'hi' to us. His shirt and his hat were his own creations.
